Empire
Spiked up in the night
I pierce the calm out of the air
Light darting—still—out of my eye
My eye of changing colors
Grounded in unnamed riches
Still Rockefeller envies me
Envies my bones steel
And pores emanating modernity--
All that tears me down
But keeps me towering still
Art deco in solidarity
Firm, impenetrable beige skin
Yet they enter me night by night
By unchanging, rapid and pulsing night:
The little laughing minions dancing on my face
Their flashes and their impetus to scream, yell, dance
Towering over their greedy ant faces--
Through me they touch the sky
They never sleep
And neither can I
I pierce the calm out of the air
Light darting—still—out of my eye
My eye of changing colors
Grounded in unnamed riches
Still Rockefeller envies me
Envies my bones steel
And pores emanating modernity--
All that tears me down
But keeps me towering still
Art deco in solidarity
Firm, impenetrable beige skin
Yet they enter me night by night
By unchanging, rapid and pulsing night:
The little laughing minions dancing on my face
Their flashes and their impetus to scream, yell, dance
Towering over their greedy ant faces--
